Wu Xiaodan is an Adjunct Lecturer in Guqin at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, mentor to students in Masters’ programmes, Vice President of the Singapore Guqin Society and council member of the Shanghai Guqin Association. 

She graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and obtained a Master’s degree in Guqin performance from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Professor Dai Xiaolian. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Traditional Chinese Music Theory at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, under the supervision of Professor Liu Hong.

In addition to her solo Guqin performances, she has collaborated with artists across various art forms, including Chinese and Western instruments, opera, drama, and dance. She strongly believes that such interdisciplinary collaborations can enrich and elevate each art form. She has performed in various concert series and has also composed and performed accompaniments and improvisational music for multiple stage plays and opera productions, including: The Peony Pavilion and Moonlight Over the Spring River produced by the Zhang Jun Kunqu Art Center, and the stage play A Jiangnan Childhood in the Misty Rain produced by Singapore I-Lien Drama Society.

As a dedicated educator, she has developed teaching syllabi tailored to different types of students and has taught summer courses at the Shanghai Foreign Language School and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She has also been invited to speak at esteemed venues such as the Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Heidelberg University. Additionally, she contributed to the compilation and editing of the Guqin Examination Pieces (2021) by the Shanghai Musicians Association.
