Ling Yan is a Pipa Soloist, based in Singapore since 2022. She obtained Bachelor Degree in Performing Arts (Music) and Master Degree in Music, from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). Her outstanding performance drove her to be awarded the prestigious HK Jockey Club Full Scholarship. Besides, she has been to the China Conservatory of Music to master Pipa under the guidance of world-class Professor Yang Jing, with the support of the HSBC exchange scholarship. Invited by HK government and the ROI recording company, Ling Yan had solo performances over the world, including Asia, Europe, and USA. She has also collaborated with many major art groups, including Singapore Ding Yi Music Company, China National Traditional Orchestra, Macao Chinese Orchestra, HK Chinese Orchestra, RTHK, HK Dance Company, HK Repertory Theatre, HK Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble, HK City Chamber Orchestra.
Ling Yan is devoted to conduct live performances, video recordings and sound recordings. Appointed by the composer Maestro Wang Hui-ran, Ling Yan gave the premiere performance of the Pipa solo piece “Homeland” in 2004. She was invited by the City Chamber Orchestra of HK to perform in the premiere of the Pipa concerto “Shadow of Dance” in 2011. Ling Yan has also been involved in many CD recording productions, such as the “Cantonese-music tutorial project”, and “the Style of Chinese Music” project.
Ling Yan has been the concertmaster of the HK Windpipe Chinese Ensemble for 12 years, and she also serves as the founder and director of the ensemble “Music-Joint Association”, promoting Chinese plucked-strings music.
In addition to performance, Ling Yan also dedicates to music education. She was a lecturer of The HKAPA, Pipa Instructor of the Macao Conservatory, and the Plucked Strings Ensemble Instructor of the School of the Arts, Singapore. Her students with different ages, have achieved excellent results in numerous national grading examinations and competitions. In 2021, Ling Yan obtained a Master Degree in Psychology (school and community settings) from the Education University of Hong Kong.
