The TENG Company makes its international co-production debut with Voyage of the Eight Graces 《八· 雅》, marking a new chapter in Singapore–Hong Kong SAR cultural exchange
TENG's first original co-production outside Singapore brings together Hong Kong Dance Company and The TENG Ensemble for performances in Hong Kong SAR and Shenzhen.
Singapore, 30 July 2026 – The TENG Company ("TENG") is proud to announce a landmark milestone in its artistic journey: the world premiere of 《八 · 雅》Voyage of the Eight Graces, TENG's first original co-production staged outside of Singapore. Presented by Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDance) and co-produced by The TENG Company, the production performs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 8 to 10 October 2026, followed by performances in Shenzhen from 16 to 17 October 2026. Tickets for Hong Kong SAR are available via Cityline at HK$180, HK$300 and HK$450.
Voyage of the Eight Graces draws inspiration from the eight classical Chinese arts — Music, Go, Calligraphy, Painting, Poetry, Fragrance, Flowers, and Tea. Blending traditional and contemporary theatrical styles, the production weaves dance, live music and stagecraft into a soulful meditation on balance, harmony and the rhythm of modern life. The production runs approximately 80 minutes with no intermission.
Choreographed by Huang Lei with artistic direction by Yang Yuntao, the creative team spans both Hong Kong SAR and Singapore. Music is conceived and directed by TENG’s Creative Director Dr. Samuel Wong, with TENG’s Head of Creative Development Jeremy Wong. Original compositions are by TENG composers Bang Wenfu, Chow Jun Yi, Joel Nah, and Sulwyn Lok. Set design is by Wong Yat Kwan, costumes by Lin Ching-ju, lighting by Denzel Yung, sound by Martin Lai, and digital imagery by Oliver Shing.
The production embraces green theatre principles, prioritising renewable and reusable materials to minimise its carbon footprint — practising environmental responsibility while conserving cultural heritage. Voyage of the Eight Graces is a "Partner Programme" of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026 and an official programme of the Asia+ Festival 2026.
As part of this extended Hong Kong SAR presence, The TENG Ensemble will also perform a special free concert at shopping mall Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 1:00pm, Level LG2. Festival Walk is a Mapletree Pan Asia Commercial Trust (MPACT) property. Supported by Mapletree Investments (Mapletree) and with venue sponsorship from Festival Walk, the performance brings The TENG Ensemble's signature East-meets-West sound to Hong Kong SAR audiences beyond the theatre, celebrating the same spirit of cultural heritage and innovation that defines Voyage of the Eight Graces.
"Voyage of the Eight Graces draws on years of research into the philosophical and aesthetic traditions that have shaped Chinese music, and reimagines them through a contemporary lens. To bring this work to life alongside the extraordinary dancers of Hong Kong Dance Company feels like the most natural extension of that vision: a dialogue between sound and movement, between two cities with shared cultural roots and distinct creative identities. I believe that the most meaningful artistic exchanges happen when artists from different disciplines and geographies come together not to compromise, but to discover something neither could have created alone. That is the spirit of this production, and I am deeply excited for audiences in Hong Kong and Shenzhen to experience it," said Dr. Samuel Wong.
Voyage of the Eight Graces is proudly sponsored by China Merchants Foundation as title sponsor, with Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Sino Group as main sponsors. The production is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, the National Arts Council, Mapletree, and Bernice & Christopher Franck. The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts serves as Green Theatre Research Partner.
"Voyage of the Eight Graces marks TENG's first collaboration with Hong Kong Dance Company, and I am deeply grateful to the many partners who have made this possible. Our sincere thanks go to Sino Group as our main sponsor, and to the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth for their steadfast support of this project. With Hong Kong Dance Company as a creative partner, the co-producing process has been genuinely exciting, bursting with fresh ideas that we cannot wait to share with audiences on the stage. This production brings together some of the finest artists from Hong Kong and Singapore, and we are honoured to present our work to international audiences in Hong Kong, including those attending HKPAX. It promises to be a special evening of cross-cultural artistry, and we hope audiences will be as moved by the journey as we have been in creating it," said Mr. Yang Ji Wei, Executive Director of The TENG Company.
