Singapore, 16 April 2025 – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) together with The TENG Company (“TENG”) have awarded six talented youths the Mapletree-TENG Scholarship 2025 to support their musical aspirations following a round of intensive auditions. Budding musicians Audi Hong, Jenell Ngeow, Liau Zi Qi, Lim Xin Yu, and Rayden Lien will receive financial support to further their passion for Chinese music. Past recipient Li Zhixin has also received the scholarship once again. With a total funding of S$73,000, the scholarship will provide these youths from less-privileged backgrounds with the resources required to grow in their musical journey.

Currently in its eighth year, the Mapletree-TENG Scholarship is a partnership between Mapletree and TENG that provides financial support for young aspiring musicians to develop their music education and proficiency in Chinese music. For a tenure of two years, scholars benefit from a well-rounded programme that includes mentorship, theoretical learning, individual training and opportunities for stage performances to refine their musical skills. In return, scholarship recipients give back to society through community outreach programmes. To date, 38 scholarships have been awarded for young musicians to make strides in their musical journeys.

“When we launched this scholarship with TENG in 2018, we envisioned a programme that would offer financial support to the recipients, along with performance opportunities to hone their skills on stage and encourage them to give back to the community through the arts. Eight years on, we are heartened to see the positive impact on young musicians and look forward to supporting our scholars through their musical journey,” said Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree.

Mapletree-TENG scholars have been greatly empowered throughout their scholarship tenure. Scholarship recipients from the past two years, Li Zhixin, Claudia Xie, Preston Ang and Ee Anzhi, have achieved awards in various categories - most recently at the 2024 Singapore Chinese Music Competition. 2024 scholarship recipient Clarissa See also performed live with The TENG Ensemble during their Once Upon a Full Moon 2024 community concert, which was presented by Mapletree and held at the VivoCity Amphitheatre in September 2024.

“This year, we celebrate not only the talent and dedication of our scholars, but also the continued growth of the Mapletree-TENG Scholarship community. With each cohort, we witness how music empowers our youth — building confidence, discipline and identity. We are proud to welcome six new scholars this year, including one returning recipient, and are deeply encouraged by their commitment to Chinese music. Their journeys remind us of the importance of access, support and belief — and we are grateful to Mapletree for making these opportunities possible,” said Yang Ji Wei, Executive Director of TENG.
