Dong Ying, a Soprano Sheng player at China Broadcasting Traditional Orchestra, is the first female master’s degree holder in Chinese wind instruments from the Central Conservatory of Music. She is also the executive member of Sheng Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society, a member of Chinese Musicians’ Association and ConTempo Ensemble Beijing.
She has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Gold Prize in the Professional Category of the 2nd ‘Flying Cup World Championship for Chinese Traditional Instruments’ in 2007, and the Silver Prize in the Traditional Wind Instruments category at the 7th China Music Golden Bell Awards in 2009, among other domestic and international honors.
Dong Ying has conducted masterclasses, solo and ensemble concerts, and recording sessions—including several world premieres—in countries such as the United States, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Russia, Mexico, Australia, Poland, Malawi, and various cities across China.
She has collaborated with many world-renowned orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Nipponica (Japan), Mannheim National Theatre Orchestra (Germany), UNAM University Philharmonic Orchestra (Mexico), China National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, National Gugak Orchestra (South Korea), Gyeonggi Provincial Orchestra (South Korea), Macao Chinese Orchestra, China National Traditional Orchestra, Ensemble Modern (Germany), and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
