The TENG Ensemble Announces Name Change to The TENG Company | With its Performance, Academy and Research Divisions

Singapore, 1 March 2022 – The TENG Ensemble Ltd., a leading non-profit Singaporean arts company, announced an official change of company name today. The change of name from “The TENG Ensemble” to “The TENG Company” provides a clearer representation of the wide range of efforts undertaken by the arts company–broadly categorized into three main pillars, Performance, Academy and Research.

Since 2004, The TENG Ensemble continued to innovate and inspire the new generation of musicians - by fusing our Chinese musical heritage with modern popular culture. TENG draws its influence from the East and the West; the traditional and the contemporary. The TENG Company continues to expand their strong team of like-minded people aspiring to bring cultures and generations together through music.

“With the musical marriage of the East and the West,” said Executive Director Yang Ji Wei, “let us continue collaborating, innovating, and inspiring our future generations to come. ”Previously named ‘Ensemble', they are now represented as a ‘Company’, demonstrating their various divisions working towards the goal of empowering our unique Singaporean identity.

The company is helmed by its three distinct pillars–Performance, Academy and Research. Each with their own responsibilities and objectives, united by the company’s vision to inspire and impact by fusing a Chinese musical heritage with the unique Singaporean identity.

Performance
Through concerts, music videos, albums, and the “TENG Gives Back” programme, The TENG Ensemble constantly looks to break new ground with familiar yet refreshing and accessible music. As a collective of music educators, scholars and award-winning instrumentalists, The TENG Ensemble showcases works that take inspiration from the past and present, with representation of today’s musical sensibilities and aesthetics.

Academy
Established in 2017, the Academy division aspires to nurture young musicians to maximise their potential-presenting endless opportunities to perform, grow and excel. They empower students to become leaders of the next generation with the ability to keep the heritage alive.

Research
The Research division aims to bridge the East and the West by enriching the academic eco-system of Chinese music with English literature. As an essential pillar of TENG, the research division paved the way for ground breaking work through the exploration of innovative and inventive ideas.
