Gerald Teo

Cello Musician

Gerald Teo is the Co-founder and Board Member of The TENG Company and sits on the Editorial Panel for the Chinese Music Instrumental Grading Examinations run by The TENG Academy. He obtained his Honours and Masters Degrees from the University of New South Wales, Australia along with a Licentiate from the Royal School of Music in Cello. In 2010, he graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education.

Gerald had extensive engagements with numerous music groups such as Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra and The Singapore Indian Orchestra amongst others. His appointments as principal cellist in various orchestras and ensemble groups have enabled him to perform in Beijing, Shanghai, Korea, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia and Australia throughout his career.

As an established educator and cellist, Gerald is a much sought-after coach and has tutored many esteemed Chinese Orchestras & String Ensembles in various institutions such as Temasek Polytechnic, Anglo-Chinese Junior College, Raffles Girl’s Secondary, Anglo-Chinese School (International), St. Margaret’s Secondary, Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), Nanyang Girls High School, Catholic High Primary and Rosyth Primary to name a few.

Gerald also dedicates much of his time coaching many talented performers from his own cello studio; many of whom are currently performing in various Music Ensembles and National Youth Orchestras. Gerald’s dedication to his work has inspired and enabled many of his students to obtain distinctions in Graded cello exams organised by ABRSM & Trinity College London; with some having decided to continue pursuing a career in music.
