Arranger

Bang Wenfu is one of Singapore’s most sought-after music producers, arrangers and composers. Over the years, he has established a distinct creative signature in all of his works, and his versatility enables him to explore a diverse range of musical styles. His active client base ranges from theatre companies to commercial pop industry, corporate firms to events companies, schools and institutions.

Wenfu has served various clients in music production services, notably in partnership with Universal Production Music to develop digital soundtrack content for its world-class stock music base.

In 2019, he was commissioned to compose 3 original pieces and one arrangement for the River Hongbao Bicentennial version of fireworks display. He was further commissioned by the People’s Association to compose the epic opening and grand finale for the 2019 Chingay Parade, specially tailor-made for the Bicentennial celebrations. Later in the year, he further contributed to the Bicentennial year with two arrangements for the National Day Parade, and produced a unique soundtrack comprised of some of Singapore’s best artistes for Garden Rhapsody, Gardens by the Bay’s world-famous light & sound show of which he and lighting designer Adrian Tan have co-created a total of 16 shows so far. He rounded off 2019 with a massive Christmas show event for Universal Studios Singapore, producing all the music for its main stage shows and background soundtrack, and an original soundtrack for AirAsia’s Ourshop.com promotion.   

2018 was a hectic year which saw him produce/arrange entire soundtracks for the Universal Studios Singapore Christmas extravaganza (3 separate live shows), the grand finale of the ASEAN summit 2018, and various other television commercials. Highlight of the year was overseeing the Music Production, Arrangement and Direction of Kit Chan’s 25th anniversary of showbiz live concert at Esplanade. In addition, he produced 2 soundtracks for Gardens by the Bay’s immensely successful light & sound show Garden Rhapsody.

For the last 20 years he has established himself as one of the leading music arrangers in musical theatre. Highlights of his prolific music arrangement work include works presented by Singapore Repertory Theatre, W!LD RICE, Theatre Practice, Pangdemonium, Sing Theatre and Resorts World Sentosa.

In the pop industry, apart from Kit Chan, he is most well-known for his near 20-year collaboration with music producer Eric Ng, producing string arrangements for dozens of top-selling albums of Chinese pop artistes such as Stefanie Sun, Tanya Chua, Jolin Tsai, Sandy Lam, Fish Leong, A Mei, Show Luo, Wakin Chau, Jaycee Chan, Wu Jiahui, amongst others. He has recently started working independently on Wakin Chau’s indie releases. He has also produced the EPs of a few of Singapore’s top music acts, including The Sam Willows, Ng Ling Kai, Strait Groove, Gareth Fernandez.

On the commercial front, he wrote the jingles for Disney’s Summer Idents 2013, and a series of TV Idents for CCTV, Jia Le and MediaCorp Channel 8. He scored the soundtrack for the international release of Clang animation series in 2008 which was aired in more than six countries He co-wrote the film soundtrack for Royston Tan’s groundbreaking hit movie-musical 881, and his controversial short film Cut. On the corporate front, he has written jingles in collaboration with Tribal Worldwide for SEA Games and NDP, and produced for various other major clienteles such as MCCY, URA, DBS, OCBC, Classified Ads, LTA, Mediacorp, JTC and many more. In 2004, he scored Changi Airport’s long-running mini-musical Fly Me To The Moon, Lady.

He has also actively promoted and produced musical theatre for various education institutions. From 2001 to present, he has composed, arranged and musical directed more than 30 shows. At present, Wenfu has composed/arranged well over 800 pieces of music and is constantly evolving his style to cater to industry preferences and consumer tastes.
